ANDRIA’S PRIORITIES

  • Flooding & Climate Change

Norfolk suffers from some of the most significant flood risk in the country, second only to New Orleans. Andria has been working to address this as the Co-Chair of the Norfolk Commission on Climate Change, creating the first Climate Action Plan for the region. She has been a tireless advocate on changing zoning and increasing funding to address flood mitigation, clean energy, and preserving the Chesapeake Bay. Andria received a gubernatorial appointment to the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Local Government Advisory Committee and was appointed by the Virginia Senate to serve on the Joint Subcommittee on Flooding.

  • Protecting Reproductive Freedom and LGBTQ Rights

Andria has long been a staunch supporter of reproductive freedom and LGBTQ rights. She believes that abortion care is health care, and reproductive decisions should be made between an individual and their medical provider. Andria will ensure all Virginians have access to a full spectrum of reproductive care and will be a brick wall against all legislation aimed at limiting access or eroding LGBTQ rights.

  • Affordable Housing

Safe, affordable housing should be accessible to all citizens at every income level. Andria serves as Chair of the Hampton Roads Planning District’s Affordable Housing Subcommittee and led the Norfolk Social Equity & Economic Commission’s Affordable Housing committee (learn more). She understands the issues and will fight for state legislation and funding to make affordable housing and home ownership available to all.

  • Public Transportation

A proud granddaughter of a public bus driver, Andria is passionate about supporting and enhancing access to reliable, safe, and frequent transit options. She has served as Chair of Hampton Roads Transit and successfully lobbied to secure $30M in regional transit funding. Andria launched Virginia’s first EV public transit buses and is a staunch advocate of pedestrian safety and expanded access to safe bike routes.

  • Education & Childcare

A robust educational system is critical to prepare students for a successful future. Andria will always be a reliable advocate of expanding infrastructure investment in public schools, raising teacher pay, expanding early childhood education, internet access, and Career and Technical Education, and making childcare safe and affordable to all Virginia parents. She is a parent of three Norfolk Public School students and is a proud graduate of Green Run High School in Virginia Beach. Andria has served in leadership roles protecting families and children for Virginia’s Child & Family Trust, Samaritan House, Norfolk Public Schools’ Open Campus Advisory Board and The Up Center.

  • Affordable, High-speed Broadband

Now more than ever, access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet service is critical for all Norfolk residents for school, work, healthcare, and more. Andria has led the creation of a regional broadband ring which will ensure Norfolk residents have more internet options, at lower costs and higher speeds, which has resulted in bringing a new, competitive broadband provider to Norfolk (Metronet).  She serves as Vice Chair of the Southside Network Authority and has an extensive understanding of broadband. Andria will continue to fight for resources at the state level to ensure that Norfolk and the region become the “digital gateway” of the commonwealth.

  • Supporting Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, accounting for nearly half of all employment. Andria is a former entrepreneur and current start-up mentor. She understands the critical need to support workforce training and access to financial capital and the need to reduce red tape that prevents new businesses from opening. She previously received a gubernatorial appointment to the Virginia Small Business Advisory Board, started Tidewater Venture Mentors, and currently serves on the executive boards of 757 Angels and 757 Accelerate.
